Semir Plivac: Neuropa – Happy… New Years
Der Text entstand im Rahmen des interkulturellen Autorentheaterprojekts WIENER WORTSTAETTEN. Von 2014 bis 2015 starteten die Wiener Wortstaetten in Zusammenarbeit mit 12 AutorInnen den Versuch, in Form eines literarischen Kettenbriefes die Identität des gegenwärtigen, vergangenen und zukünftigen Europas zu thematisieren. Dabei hatte jede/r Autor/in die Aufgabe, einen kurzen dramatischen Text zu verfassen, der sich inhaltlich mit dem vorgegebenen Thema “Neuropa” beschäftigt und an den vorherigen Text in irgendeiner Form – also entweder an eine der Figuren oder einen Handlungsort – anknüpft. Jedenfalls vorkommen musste der Satz: “Was ist los mit Europa?” Interessant dabei war, dass die beteiligten AutorInnen nur jeweils die unmittelbar vorhergehende Episode zu lesen bekamen.So entstand auch der Text “Happy New Years”. Er zeichnet ein eher düsteres Bild der Zukunft Europas, ein überreglementiertes, bürokratisches und inhumanes Bild. “Nimm deine Zukunft selbst in die Hand!” und “Geht’s der Wirtschaft gut,…” beherrschen die Einstellung und das Leben aller. Fast aller. Die Tatsache, dass die Besetzung eines neuen Planeten uns nicht zu einer Neuorientierung bewegen konnte, sondern nur zu einem altbekannten Anzapfen vorhandener Ressourcen, lässt uns den Glauben, dass durch Kapital alleine die Weiterentwicklung einer Gesellschaft möglich ist, als Illusion erkennen.

The text was created within the context of the intercultural author theater project WIENER WORTSTAETTEN. From 2014 to 2015 Wiener Wortstaetten began in cooperation with 12 authors the attempt to address the identity of the present, past and future of Europe in the form of a literary chain letter. Each writer had the task to write a short dramatic text, which deals with the given topic “Neuropa” and links to the previous text in some form – either to one of the figures or a place of action. In any case, the following sentence had to occur: “What is the matter with Europe?” It was interesting to note that the authors involved only read the immediately preceding episode.This is how the text “Happy New Years” was created. It draws a rather gloomy picture of the future of Europe, an overregulated, bureaucratic and inhuman image. “Take your future into your own hands!” and “If business is good,…” dominate the attitude and the life of all. Almost all. The fact that the occupation of a new planet could not lead us to a reorientation, but only to a well-known tapping of existing resources, makes us believe that capital as the only way to develop a society is an illusion.
