An investigation.

Migration, identity and imagination: 3 artists – 3 generations – with cultural and political experiences from 3 very different countries meet about a year after immigrating to Austria and engage with each other to develop an exhibition together in an two months lasting open process.

Artists statements: Consuelo Méndez | Farahnaz Davari

 

Consuelo Méndez, born 1952 in Caracas, Venezuela, US citizen. Studied Printmaking at San Francisco Art Institute, CA (1974) and at San Francisco State University (1976). Co-founder and member of “Mujeres Muralistas” of San Francisco, CA, until 1976. Associated Professor at Institute of Fine Arts Armando Reverón, Caracas, in Experimental Drawing (1991-2009), Performance and Body Art (2000-2009). Resides in Graz, Austria since February, 2022.
Creative research in plastic/visual/body arts, photography, artist’s diary, murals (public space and time), book objects and works on paper.

Diana Fedoriaka, born 1999, is an Ukrainian artist currently based in Austria. In her practice, she works with moving images, installations, and photography. Diana is a member of the MYPH Collective and the Ukrainian Women Photographers Organization. She participated in numerous exhibitions in Europe and the US and was selected as a “Fresh Eyes Talent” by GUP Magazine in 2023.

Farahnaz Davari Dolatabadi, born 1978 in Iran, completed her studies in carpet design in Isfahan in 1999 and in painting in Tehran in 2018. She is member of the “Tazhib Art Group”. In numerous exhibitions in Iran, Italy and Georgia, she has primarily dealt with the role of women in an authoritarian regime and its consequences on the psyche. In 2022, the artist decided to immigrate, a radical step that is reflected in her current works.
